The index entropy of a mismatched codebook
We show that if a random codebook for lossy source coding is generated by a non-optimum reproduction distribution Q, then the entropy of the index of the D-matching codeword is reduced by conditioning on the codebook: the number of bits saved is equal to the divergence between the \favorite type" in the codebook and the generating distribution Q. Speciic examples are provided.
متن کاملSparse single-index model
Let (X, Y ) be a random pair taking values in Rp × R. In the socalled single-index model, one has Y = f?(θ?TX) + W , where f? is an unknown univariate measurable function, θ? is an unknown vector in Rd, and W denotes a random noise satisfying E[W |X] = 0. The single-index model is known to offer a flexible way to model a variety of high-dimensional real-world phenomena. However, despite its rel...
متن کاملCompressing Vector Quantization Index Table Using Side Match State Codebook
In the memoryless vector quantization scheme, each image block is independently encoded as a corresponding index and then an index table will be generated. In this paper, we apply the side match concept and propose a new scheme, which can further compress the index table without introducing extra encoding distortion. Our scheme exploits the characteristic that the blocks of images are highly co...
متن کاملSegmentation using Codebook Index Statistics for Vector Quantized Images
In this paper, the segmentation using codebook index statistics (SUCIS) method is proposed for vector-quantized images. Three different codebooks are constructed according to the statistical characteristics (mean, variance, and gradient) of the codewords. Then they are employed to generate three different index images, which can be used to analyze the image contents including the homogeneous, e...
متن کاملClassified VQ codebook index assignment for communication over noisy channels
In this paper, an improved index assignment procedure is proposed to reduce the channel error effect in a communication system employing classified vector quantization (CVQ). The proposed algorithm consists of two parts: inner index assignment (IIA) and cross index assignment (CIA). The IIA reduces the distortion resulting from the error in order bits, presenting the identity of each code vecto...
